Devon picks up first Auto Club Late Model feature!

Devon picks up first Auto Club Late Model feature!

9/3/2011

Last weekend, Aug 27, Devon was asked to substitute drive in team owner Tim Huddleston’s S2 Limited Late Model,
& led all 30 laps of the main event to take his 2nd victory in that class.

This past Saturday night, Sept 3rd, Devon picked up his first NASCAR Late Model Win of his career, also leading every lap of the first main event of the evening. A mid race caution put team mate & series points leader Brandon Davis, who has won 9 feature events & will be crowned track & state champion, right on his tail. Brandon pressured him over the final 15 laps, but Devon held on to win by a car length.

The 2nd feature of the twins night ended as soon as it started. Devon started 7th, was up to 4th as they were coming to the line, but something happened
Up front that ended up causing a chain reaction 8 car pileup. Devon got door slammed from the side, then hit from behind & spun around backwards, & slammed again. The car sustained extensive damage, & had to be hauled off the track, ending our night. Racing can go from hi’s to low’s real quick, but that doesn’t take away from the feeling of getting that first win!

(IRWINDALE, CA) Ostheimer, a high school junior, set fourth fastest qualifying time, started second and took second spot from Holloway on lap 15. McGrady made an inside pass of Holloway leaving turn four on lap 20 to claim third. That finalized the podium positions. Davis extended his lead to 40-yards and won by 1.689 seconds over Ostheimer. McGrady made a final charge to gain second, but fell 0.184 short. A four-car battle for fourth position waged in close quarters for the final 18 laps. Nine seconds behind third place at the finish (a straightaway), C. Johnson held off Toni McCray by 0.128. She edged 16-year old ACLM rookie Taylor Miinch, an ASA Speed Truck veteran, by 0.335. Darren Cheek trailed Miinch by 0.504. Benjanim Mahan, 15, started 15th and finished eighth. SW Tour Truck champion Jeff Williams, an ACLM rookie, placed ninth. S2 track champion Dylan Lupton, 17, was tenth and the last driver on the lead lap. Romano and M. Johnson also finished, down a lap in damaged cars. Devon Takes 4th In Stock Car Debut!

4/7/2011

(MORGAN HILL, CA) Devon made his NASCAR Whelen All American Series Late Model debut this past Saturday night, April 2nd at Toyota Speedway, Irwindale CA. The event was a double header, 2 main event races for opening night. Devon had some difficulty in qualifying, which would put him near the back of the pack for both races. For the 1st Main event, Devon started 20th. He worked his way up to 14th, & his car just seemed to get better & better, especially in turns 3 & 4. He had moved up to 10th, when a caution came out for some cars that were running in the front. For the re-start, he would line up 6th, outside row 3. He managed to take over the 5th spot, & a few laps later took over the 4th position where he would finish. For the 2nd Main event, Devon would start 17th. Pretty much the same action, the car was pretty good. Devon was pretty patient, picking off some cars one by one, trying to be smooth to save his tires for the last half of the race. Devon did an awesome job, passing cars & avoiding some accidents, & managed to finish in 6th place. The first time Late Model driver earned the hard charger award in...more

Devon Ostheimer To Drive For High Point Racing!

Devon Ostheimer To Drive For High Point Racing!

3/1/2011

MORGAN HILL -- Devon Ostheimer spent most of his 17th birthday behind the wheel of a stock car in Irwindale's Toyota Speedway, tackling turns on the famous half-mile oval at about 100 mph. This was no over-the-top present for Morgan Hill's prodigal auto racer, though, Ostheimer did treat the experience like a long-awaited gift. Three weeks ago, he signed on with High Point Racing team to compete in the upcoming Whelen All-American Series, a seven-month NASCAR circuit that provides national exposure for up-and-coming drivers. Ostheimer will compete in Auto Club Late Model Stock Cars - the feature division at Toyota Speedway - which are slower versions of the automobiles driven by NASCAR's household names. The first few practice sessions were held Thursday in Irwindale. For Ostheimer, it was the culmination of years spent dazzling crowds as a golden boy of Watsonville's Ocean Speedway. "My career is basically starting over," the Sobrato High School junior said last week. "(I've) been racing dirt for a while. Obviously, I want to be a paid NASCAR driver someday, and I'm at a good age to transition from dirt to pavement. I...more
